Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Design & Specs
A ‘pocket-sized AI powerhouse’ is how Samsung describes its latest clamshell-style foldable device, the Galaxy Z Flip7.
Its new Galaxy AI features and design were revealed at July’s Galaxy Unpacked event, alongside the larger, tablet-like Z Fold7. Shipping began on July 25, meaning the Flip7 is available right now!
The Z Flip6 had a similar design to its predecessor. However, it featured a few updates that created a more premium finish, with a sleek matte material and flattened edges. The Flip6 also has an improved IP48 water and dust resistance rating, plus a main camera lens upgraded from 12 to 50 MP.
These limited changes were matched by a limited cover screen functionality. Only basic information, like the time or weather, was displayed, and customization was also pretty limited. Does the Z Flip7 improve on these drawbacks? After a few months of testing, here are our thoughts on Samsung’s latest device’s design.

What Design Features Does the Galaxy Z Flip7 Include?
The latest Z Flip model includes everything from a thinner frame to a larger cover screen:
1. Slimmer Design
The Z Flip7 weighs just 188 grams. This pocket-friendly device is also more compact, measuring just 13.7 mm when folded. That's a 1.2mm increase compared to the previous generation!
The durable design is thanks to a restructured thinner hinge, which features high-strength materials and a barely noticeable crease through the main display — something that’s often a challenge with foldable phones!
This year’s smaller foldable also keeps the Z Flip6’s armor aluminum frame. Its cover screen and back are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a durable material built to better survive drops on rough surfaces like concentre.
Choose from four popular colors, including Jetblack, Blue Shadow, Coralred, and a Samsung online exclusive Mint shade.
2. Improved Cover Screen
The Z Flip7’s most noticeable change to the cover screen, particularly when placed next to the Z Flip 6, is its increase in size, from 3.4 to 4.1 inches.
An edge-to-edge FlexWindow display now takes up the whole upper half of the phone, replacing the previous generation’s awkward folder-shaped outer screen. This larger screen comes courtesy of smaller bezels, which make typing on the keyboard much easier.
Samsung has also increased the main screen size by 0.2 inches. The 6.9-inch screen is now the same shape as a regular phone and doesn’t feel narrower or taller, making it more user-friendly.
Alongside bigger screens, Samsung has also delivered a significant improvement in quality. This includes the sharpest 948 x 1048 resolution ever seen on a Z Flip device, plus a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. A 2600-nit peak brightness makes the screen’s content easy to see outside on bright days.
However, the same great upgrades haven’t been made to the cover screen’s functionality. Widgets still can’t be added or removed, and the display won’t function in a different orientation.
But there are some positives! Galaxy AI features like Gemini Live are now available directly on the cover screen. Samsung’s AI voice assistant does everything from helping you search the web for key information to finding flight details. And the best part is that all of these features can be accessed without opening your phone!
3. Good Camera Setup
While the Z Flip6 featured several improvements from its predecessor, the Flip7 remains familiar to — or exactly the same as — the previous generation.
This includes a 50 MP main camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens, plus a 10 MP selfie camera on the inner main display. Like other foldable phones, these lenses don’t offer the highest camera quality, but definitely do the job if you’re looking to capture memories with friends.
Samsung’s AI-powered ProVisual Engine also automatically optimizes your shots for a slightly improved quality.
4. Exynos 2500 Chipset
Perhaps the biggest surprise we got at Galaxy Unpacked was the announcement that Samsung wouldn’t be including a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in the Galaxy Z Flip7. Instead, the foldable would replace the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite with its own Exynos 2500 chipset, a (disappointingly) less advanced silicon in comparison.
It does include a CPU and a GPU that Samsung claims are more powerful than those found in the Z Flip6, which offer improved graphics and gaming. However, despite being built on a powerful 3nm process, early benchmark tests tell a different story that puts the Flip7’s performance behind the Flip6 and its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.
One positive is the 4300 mAh battery, which is the largest ever on a Z Flip phone so far. It doesn’t quite beat the Z Fold7’s 4400 mAh, or the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 5015 mAh capacity, though! While this should last for most of the day, the actual battery life depends on how often you pick up your phone and which features are most used.

Does the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE Have the Same Design?
The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Samsung’s budget-friendly flagship Flip phone, does have a similar design to the standard Z Flip7. However, it features the same body as last year’s model, including a smaller 3.4-inch cover screen and 6.7-inch main display.
One key difference, however, is the olephobic coating on the back. Whether you choose a sleek Black or classic White color option, this attracts dirty and dust pretty easily, and is also a fingerprint magnet.
The ‘Fan Edition’ device is $200 cheaper than the regular model - just like the Galaxy S25 Edge or Apple's iPhone 16e. This lower price comes with a few sacrifices, including the slower Exynos 2400 chip and less powerful 4000 mAh battery.
Final Thoughts
The Galaxy Z Flip7’s bigger, brighter cover screen is a great improvement over the previous Z Flip device. Its slimmer design also makes Samsung’s latest foldable an excellent choice if you’re looking for a pocket-friendly, stylish phone.
We also appreciate the improved durability from the Armor Flex Hinge and water resistance rating, which is often a point of content with foldable phones.
The Flip7 is good alternative to the Z Fold7, which will set you back $2000. And if you’re on a budget, but still want to enjoy the Flip phone experience, try the Z Flip7 FE.
However, for the $1,099.99 price tag, we’d expect more from the Flip 7’s internal design. The average camera setup and disappointing Exynos 2500 chip don’t quite live up to the same Samsung standards we saw from the flagship S25. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Z Flip8 release for some design improvements!
